World’s first fully electric deconstruction project

A set of all-electric construction machines from Volvo CE and Volvo Trucks is powering the world’s first fully electric deconstruction site in Erlangen, Germany, in collaboration with Siemens and Metzner Recycling. The project involves high-performance demolition across a 25,000 cubic meter site, enabling fully emission-free operations from selective gutting through to concrete crushing, materials processing, and transport. The electric machines processed approximately 12,800 tons of construction waste, with 96% recycled into raw materials for future use, supporting circular materials management.
