Our work programme supports WWF’s global 2030 goals: zero loss of habitats, zero extinction, and halving humanity’s footprint. These align with the EU’s 8th Environmental Action Programme and the biodiversity, climate and energy legislative framework. Our activities aim to implement the first year of our two year Framework Partnership Agreement. Our efforts will focus on promoting strong conservation and restoration measures, particularly via the implementation of the new Nature Restoration Law and the Birds and Habitats Directives. We will also support the implementation of the EU Deforestation Regulation. We will build on the new Water Resilience Strategy and Climate Adaptation plan to promote nature-based solutions - especially for freshwater ecosystems. WWF aims to reduce environmental footprints through climate, energy, food, and fisheries and ocean-related policies. We will support the new 2040 (and 2035) targets under the EU Climate Law and ‘fit for 55’ package. We will build on the Strategic Dialogue on the future of European Agriculture, to ensure a genuine transition for farmers and nature through the next Common Agricultural Policy. Finally, we will also provide input into the Commission reviews of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive and the Common Fisheries Policy. WWF EPO will address wildlife overexploitation and illegal trade by focusing on the implementation of the recently revised Environmental Crime Directive. Sustainable finance and international partnerships are critical to achieving our three global goals. Internationally, we will promote increased climate and biodiversity funding within EU external cooperation policies as part of the next EU Multiannual Financial Framework. And we will focus on the implementation of the Corporate Sustainable Due Diligence Directive, with a focus on the financial sector.
