The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) is an independent conservation organisation established in 1961, with over 5 million supporters, more than 30 million followers on social media and a global network active in nearly 100 countries. Our mission is to stop the degradation of the planet's natural environment and to build a future in which people live in harmony with nature. The WWF European Policy Office (EPO) helps shape EU policies that impact on the European and global environment, in line with WWF's mission. It prepares policy recommendations, participates in public events on EU policy, communicates and campaigns on its policy positions to EU decision-makers and media, informs and mobilises its supporters, and advises its WWF Network Offices how and when to influence key policy decisions in the national capitals. This activities proposed in year 1 of our 3 year work programme aim to help achieve a shift towards a sustainable, circular, energy-efficient, renewable energy-based, climate-neutral and resilient economy, as outlined as the general objective of the LIFE programme. We aim to tackle climate change, drive the clean energy transition, and halt and reverse biodiversity loss and the degradation of ecosystems. Concretely, we are pursuing three science-based targets to put nature on the path to recovery by 2030, namely: zero loss of natural habitats, zero extinction of species and halving the footprint of consumption and production. Through our activities we seek to tackle the main barriers to the achievement of the general objective of the LIFE programme: poor implementation and enforcement of EU environmental law, a lack of policy coherence throughout the stages of policy making, and low-level or missing EU standards and targets. the main areas of engagement include water, resource efficiency, environment, forestry, agriculture, climate mitigation and adaptation, energy, biodiversity, finance, trade, fisheries, external action and governance.
