Description | A major power outage affected approximately 95,000 customers in Wyoming and western South Dakota due to two major 500-kilovolt transmission lines near Medicine Bow tripping. This caused an abnormal voltage event cascading across the regional grid, shutting down additional lines and impacting multiple utilities including Rocky Mountain Power, Black Hills Energy, and Montana-Dakota Utilities. The outage also led to a fire at the Dave Johnston coal-fired power plant near Glenrock, which was a consequence of the grid failure. |
