Description

Description

The project will construct an approximately 10,000 square foot community centre in the Nemaiah Valley, which will include a gathering space, meeting rooms, a kitchen, washrooms, storage room, and a lobby. The centre will provide a space for a range events, including community gatherings, recreational programs and cultural activities both for Xeni Gwet’in and neighboring communities. A recent community planning study identified that the #1 priority for the community members is to increase tradition, language and culture. A community centre would support this goal by providing space for traditional activities with the children and youth, increasing the number of traditional community events and gatherings, hosting weekly Tsilhqot’in language classes and running recreational activities. Site has significance because it is the site of a 2018 reconciliation ceremony where PM Trudeau officially exonerated 6 Tsilhqot’in chiefs executed during the Chilcotin War. The project works will include: - gymnasium; - changing rooms; - kitchen; - storage and utility spaces; - solar farm, and, - related works.
