Description | In March of 2003, Sinomem Technology Ltd. (Sinomem) of Singapore was awarded a contract to build and operate a 5,000 cubic meters per day capacity seawater desalination plant by the Xiamen municipal government. To implement the contract, Suntar Desalination was formed as the project company in which Sinomem took a 30% stake while the Xiamen Resources Group, wholly owned by the Xiamen municipal government, held on to the remainder. The total cost of the project was S$3 million (US$1.7 million). Financial closure was reached in June of 2003 when Sinomem sucessfully listed on the Singapore stock exchange, raising S$44-million (US$25.5 million) to fund the desalination plant and other operations.
