Description
Description | The project comprised building and operating two transmission lines for a period of 30 years. The first 500Kv line connected Xingo substation in the State of Sergipe to Angelim substation in the State of Pernambuco (200 Km). The second 230Kv line connected Angelim substation to Campina Grande, in the state of Paraiba (186 Km). The company responsible for the project, Nordeste Transmissora de Energia (NTE), was held by Abengoa Brasil, Instalaciones Inabensa and Dragados Industrial. ANEEL, the Brazilian independent regulatory agency for the electricity sector, offered through public bid the concession for the lines in September 28, 2001. The Spanish company Inabensa was the winner. In 2002, 49.9% of the shares of Inabensa Brasil were transferred from the Spanish Instalaciones Inabensa (Abengoa) to Dragados Industrial (part of ACS Group as of December 2003). In 2003, Nordeste Transmissora de Energia (NTE) was created as the JV company responcible for the project. The contract between ANEEL and Inabensa was signed in January 2002. According to the contract, the lines were to start operating within 24 months of signature. In April 2004, NTE inaugurated the line. The project reached financial closure in August 2003, when Brazil’s development Bank approved a financing of US$82.1 million (R$238.6 million) for the project. The total investment in the project was expected to be R$340.9 million (US$117.3 million). The project was expected to expand distribution in the Northeast region of Brazil by up to 3,000 MW. It was also expected to integrate the North/Northeast and South/Southeast/Center-West systems. The Xingo-Angelim line linked 17 cities while Angelim-Campina Grande line linked 16 municipalities.
