Description | In December of 2001, Anhui Guozhen Environmental Protection Science & Technology Co., Ltd. (GZEP) won a BOT contract for a wastewater treatment plant in Xinhui District of Jiangmen city, Guangdong province following an international tender. GZEP, a private business from Anhui Province, invested RMB 36 million (US$4.4 million) for the land and a supporting network of sewage pipelines. The city government agreed to pay CNY 0.67 (EUR 0.07) for each ton of sewage treated, which was considerably lower than the CNY 1.2 (EUR 0.13) it would have reportedly spent if it had conducted and managed the plant on its own.
