Description

The Yadana Gas Pipeline is a 617 km submarine gas pipeline, with an estimated cost of US$1034.0 million. A consortium led by TotalFina (France) is building the 320 km, US$394.0 million Yadana Gas Pipeline from the Yadana offshore gas field in the Gulf of Matarban in Myanmar to Ban I Thong on the Thai-Myanmar border. The Yadana consortium is held by operator TotalFina SA (31.24%), Unocal Corp. (28.26%), Thai state oil company PTT Exploration & Production (25.5%), and state-owned Myanma Oil & Gas Enterprise (15%). The state-owned Petroleum Authority of Thailand (PTT) would build the a 297km, US$640 million gas section that connects from Ban I Thong to the 4600MW power plant in Ratchaburi, near Bankgok, operated by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT). Construction on the pipeline has begun on the Myanmar side. A 30-year PPA between PTT and the Yadana consortium was signed in Febuary 1995. Financial closure was believed to have occurred during 1995. As of February 2000, construction works are almost completed, and commercial operations were expected for April 2000.
