Yamuna River Dredging Project in Delhi

The Delhi government plans to seek permission from the National Green Tribunal to dredge the Yamuna riverbed in the city to revive the river's natural flow, increase its water-carrying capacity, ease pressure on regulator drains, and enhance flood resilience of low-lying neighborhoods along its banks. The project involves excavation of accumulated silt, sludge, and solid waste from the riverbed, which is currently prohibited. Once permission is granted, a detailed project report will be prepared. The project aims to mitigate flooding, improve raw water availability, and ease stress on downstream regulators.
