Yanango - Chimay Power Project

The project is being developed by Edegel (60%) and Perene (40%). Edegel is a generating utility which was privatized in 1995. The project involves the construction and operation of two hydro power units and a transmission line. The first phase of the project consisted of the construction of the Yanango plant, which involved US$ 60 million in investment financed with the companies own resources. The Yanango unit has a capacity of 40 MW and commenced operations in early 2000. The second phase of the project involved the construction of the 141-MW Chimay unit. Works on this unit started in 2000 and the US$ 140 million investment was financed with bond issuances. The project also envisages the construction of a 120-KM transmission line linking Chimay and Yanango to the Pachachaca substation which is connected to the SICN.
