Description | In October of 2000, China Water Company (CWC) was awarded a concession contract for the operation and upgrading of an existing 20,000 tons of sewage per day treatment plant in Yanjiao Economic and Technology Development Zone in Hebei Province to 40,000 tons of sewage per day. The project also included the responsibility for the implementation of raw water wells and a transmission pipeline. To implement the contract, Sanhe Yanjiao CWC Water Company Limited was created as the project company, a co-operative joint venture between China Water Company (CWC) and the local state-owned Sanhe Yanjiao Water Company Limited (exact shares were undisclosed). As of 2002, CWC itself was owned by Thames Water (a subsidiary of RWE) (48.8%) and Sime Darby Bhd. of Malaysia (33.3%).
