Yara Blue Hydrogen-Based Ammonia Plant at Sluiskil

Yara International is set to begin operations at its flagship blue hydrogen-based ammonia plant in the Netherlands within weeks. The project involves retrofitting part of the existing 1.8-million-tonnes-a-year grey ammonia plant at the Sluiskil fertiliser complex with carbon capture capability, making it one of Europe's largest blue hydrogen plants when operational. Around 800,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide will be captured and transported to Equinor's Northern Lights carbon storage facility in Norway. The exact volumes of blue ammonia production are yet to be determined as part of the plant will still produce grey hydrogen and ammonia.
