Description | The Yarlung Zangbo River downstream hydropower project officially broke ground on July 19, with a total investment of 1.2 trillion yuan. The project is estimated to have a 15-year construction period, with the first ten years focusing on site preparation and main construction, consuming cement and steel. The last five years will focus on equipment installation and testing, with significantly reduced material demand. The total cement demand is expected to reach 43 million tons, averaging about 4.3 million tons per year, which is only 0.2% of China's annual production capacity but will increase cement demand in Tibet by about 33%. |
