Description | The project involves the construction and operation of the 30 KM Yellow Line of the mass rapid transit (MRT) system between Lat Phrao in Bangkok and Samrong in Samut Prakan province. It will connect with existing MRT lines such as Green Line and Airport Rail Link), and new MRT lines such as Blue and Orange Lines. The project includes also 23 stations, 1 depot, 1 one park & ride building. The Yellow line project runs alongside with the Pink Line project The project SPV is Eastern Bangkok Monorail Company Limited (EBM). The sponsors are BTS Group Holdings Plc (75%), Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding Plc (10%) and Sino-Thai Engineering and Construction Plc (15%). The SPV submitted the most competitive offer and was selected as the preferred bidder in December 2016. The 33-year concession agreements with Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) were signed in June 2017. EBM will have the rights to operate the line, and receive farebox revenues, commercial development fees, and parking fees. Commercial operations are expected to commence in 2021. The project cost is around THB 51.9 billion ($ 1.656 billion). Asian Development Bank (ADB) committed THB 4.95 billion or $ 157.36 million loan. Other banks included in the project are Bankgkok Bank, Krung Thai Bank and Siam Commercial Bank. The government will provide THB 25.05 billion or $ 796.33 million subsidies during the first 10 years of the operation in equal instalments.
