Description
Description | The Yellowhead Tribal College G.R.O.W. Project (the Project) will renovate and improve classrooms and laboratories at the College to better utilize the space for the science experiments and technological classes. The scope of work includes: wall removal to create a bigger room to be utilized as classroom/laboratory from the three existing small rooms; electrical moves and terminations in the designated rooms; levelling and flooring installation in the room; carpet replacement with chemical-resistant flooring for proper cleaning and compliance with the health and safety of participants; and installation of room mounted exhaust fans, air ducts, fume hoods, and electrical connections and exhaust fan control devices. Once the Project is complete, it will give students improved access to, and increased quality of community and cultural infrastructure. The restructured classrooms and laboratories will provide culturally relevant programming in a safe environment for Indigenous learners to reach increased educational attainment in the STEM fields (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). Indigenous students are under-represented in the STEM fields, both in communities and when they reach post-secondary. This Project will increase growth in the enrollment and pursuit of the sciences among First Nations and Indigenous students. |
