Description

Description

The project consists of expanding the current waste management facilities in support of Yellowknife’s Strategic Waste Management Plan. The project scope will include expansion to add 20 publicly-accessible multi-stream recycling stations with improved signage, 20 new composing bins for multi-family areas with improved signage, and enhancements to the current backyard composting campaign. In addition, the project will include expansions to the current solid waste facility, recycling depot, and curbside garbage system. The project will result in more waste diverted from landfills, increasing from 3,500 to 12,000 tonnes/year, by offering more publicly-available recycling and composting options and by increasing the capacity of the city to divert waste from 1100 kg per capita to 500 kg per capita by 2030.
