The project will contribute to protecting the human capital of the population of Yemen by supporting the delivery of essential health, nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene services at both primary health care (PHC) level and at referral secondary care centers, as well as capacity building of the health and water and sanitation systems.The AF3 supports delivery of public health services. Health activities will include: improving access to the minimum service package at primary, secondary and tertiary levels; enhancing cholera preparedness and response; preventing and treating acute and chronic malnutrition; sustaining the national health system preparedness and public health programs; and building institutional capacity to manage the health sector. Activities financed by AF3 will ensure that populations impacted by the recent flash floods will have access to health services, and will also rehabilitate health centers damaged in the floods. The AF3 will also support the provision of water and sanitation services (WSS) for the population of Yemen through rehabilitation of medium to large WSS infrastructure and strengthening the capacity building of the local water and sanitation institutions. Specifically, AF3 activities will include restoring access to improved water and sanitation services; operation of main water and wastewater facilities by providing electrical materials and alternative sustainable energy solutions; emergency support for water, sanitary, and hygiene (WASH) interventions in response to flash floods; and capacity building of water and sanitation institutions at the local level in selected urban and rural areas. AF3 will also finance minor rehabilitation of selected damaged health facilities and WSS infrastructure impacts by floods.
