Description | Yeniseitelecom provides GSM-900/1800 and NMT-450 services in in Krasnoyarsk territory. The company was established in March 1995 as a joint venture between the Russian Telecommunication Development Corporation (RTDC), a subsidiary of US West, and Krasnoyarsk AO Elektrosvyaz, later known as SibirTelecom. The company created a cellular communication network using the federal NMT standard. US West had a license for creation of NMT and GSM cellular networks in various regions of the Russian Federation and it participated in the 50x50 project in cooperation with Rostelecom. The company started its commercial operations in April 1997 and had 2,000 subscribers by December 1997. Yeniseitelecom planned to expand its network capacity to 5,000 in 1998 with a US$3 million investment. In April 2003, SibirTelecom (previously Krasnoyarsk Elektrosvyaz), the incumbent telecommunications operator in Siberia, became the sole owner of Yeniseitelecom after acquiring RTDC's 49% stake for US$12.5 million. SibirTelecom planned to consolidate its mobile operators in Siberia. Yeniseitelecom had a 55.8% market share in the city of Krasnoyarsk and 47.8% in Krasnoyarsk region by 2003. Yeniseitelecom planned to invest a US$30 million in its networks in 2004. The money would be spent on the installation of 96 new base stations, increasing the total to 240.
