Description

Description

"""Young Stories from the Old Continent"" is an educational literary translation project that promotes transnational translation and circulation of quality and award-winning European works of fiction for children and youth, mainly from lesser and underrepresented languages, focused on relevant and crosscutting issues and themes that concern our society, especially the ones that represent its future – the young population. The project includes 7 partners and involves translation, circulation and dissemination of 25 books for children of different ages and young adults/new adults, divided by: 1. age groups: small children, middle graders and young adults/new adults; 2. cross-cutting themes: a. gender equality and feminism, b. inclusion and acceptance of differences and c. environmental awareness. Within the project we’ll conduct specially designed extensive educational activities and promotional campaign tailored for each target group, using language and images that speak directly to the youth - understandable, interesting, and visually appealing. Our goal: by education of the youth through promotion of the literary works that speak about the issues that concern our society and our planet, with whose characters and stories they can relate, to contribute in creating socially and environmentally aware young people that will be able to make a difference as future adults. The project involves mobility of European authors, including 2 Ukrainian authors. We plan extensive, tailored activities: creative workshops, readings, youth literary events, debates, discussions and Q&As, book clubs, translators round tables - in unique cultural spaces and urban hubs, high schools, schools, libraries, creative centres, bookstores, parks. We expect the project to be successful in terms of transnational promotion of Young European books, promoting European cultural and linguistic diversity and heritage, and recognizing social and environmental cross-cutting issues.
