"This project addresses the rising EU scepticism and lack of EU literacy in remote rural areas of Austria, particularly in Styria. Recent elections have shown an increase in EU scepticism, with only 56.3% voter turnout in the 2024 EU elections and 20% of young voters expressing extreme scepticism. This is especially prevalent in the Murtal district, where misinformation and a lack of objective information contribute to negative perceptions of the EU. The project aims to combat this by fostering EU literacy, identity, and active citizenship among teachers and students aged 15-18, providing them with objective information and strategies to understand complex EU issues. The BG/BRG Judenburg has a history of Erasmus+ mobilities, which have highlighted a demand for greater engagement in EU projects. Despite this, there is a recognized lack of EU literacy among students, parents, and teachers. This project seeks to increase EU literacy and awareness of the EU's impact on daily life through collaboration with external partners and stakeholders. The project has several objectives: increasing the number of schools teaching Jean Monnet ""Learning EU initiatives in other fields of education and training"" (LEU), involving more classes in EU-related learning experiences, embedding EU issues in key subjects and extra-curricular activities, engaging more teachers in improving EU literacy, and enhancing the quality of innovative EU teaching methods. By integrating EU topics across the curriculum and involving students and teachers in various EU activities, the project aims to make EU topics more accessible and engaging, ultimately fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the EU among the school community."
