Youth Involvement in the European Democratic Debate through Journalism

The EFIVOS in Europe project builds upon the successful EFIVOS project in which disadvantaged youth developed journalistic skills and knowledge and created their own media content. In the EFIVOS in Europe project, youth groups in the age 18-25 will be receive training on EU actions and be encouraged to work with two topics high on the European agenda and relevant for the future of this group. One of these topics will be the environment and climate and the second one will be chosen by the young people themselves. The project will be implemented in seven EU member states (Greece, Cyprus, Italy, Spain, Bulgaria, Romania and Denmark). In each participating state, the youth will develop in cooperation with trained educators, workshops on the above topics as well as training on journalism and media literacy. In continuation the youth groups will develop media content (articles and podcasts) that will be published through dedicated websites and social media. In the end, and leading up to the 2024 European Parliament Elections, debates with candidates and workshops in schools will be set up before the project ends with an Online EU Conference organised by the youth themselves. The project aims to provide this group of youth with the tools and the knowledge to acquire a voice in the public political debate and participate fully in the democratic process, with the long-term impact of shaping the next decades of policies of the European Union in the image of the people to whom the future belongs.
