The Yumbo Steam Plant Extension Project for Colombia will provide a loan of US $2.8 million to the Central Hidroelectrica del Rio Anchicaya (CHIDRAL) of Cali to expand the power facilities at Yumbo. The area of Cali is rapidly industrializing and growing in population. In order to support this growth, CHIDRAL must develop its power supply to meet new demands. The project will accomplish this goal by: 1) adding a second identical unit to the existing 10,000 kw steam plant at Yumbo; 2) expanding substations at Yumbo and Cali; 3) installing a suction dredge for the removal of reservoir deposits; 4) completing a 34.5 kv distribution ring and substations in Cali; 5) providing engineering services and miscellaneous items; and 6) implementing a preliminary study for the further expansion of the Yumbo plant. These improvements will increase the power capacity of CHIDRAL in order to meet consumer needs in the Cali area.
