Zaijia Water Supply Project

In January 1998, the China Water Company (CWC) was awarded a BOT contract for the development, construction and operation of the Zaijia Water Supply Project. The project consisted of 5 parts: 1) 32 intake wells, 2) 14.8 km of transmission pipelines, 3) a plant which treats 100,000 tons of water per day 4) power transmission and transformation and 5) automated control center. The plant was to be the main source of drinking water for the 740,000 residents of the Tiexi District. To implement the contract, Shenyang CWC was created as the project company which was a joint venture formed by CWC and the state-owned Shenyang General Water Supply Company (exact shares were undisclosed). As of 2002, CWC itself was owned by Thames Water (a subsidiary of RWE) (48.8%) and Sime Darby Bhd. of Malaysia (33.3%). Total investment was estimated at US$25 million.
