Zambia - Central Province Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project

The proposed project will entail promotion of the use of adequate water supply and improved sanitation in the five rural districts of Central Province (Serenje, Mkushi, Kapiri-Mposhi, Chibombo, and Mumbwa). The project is based on a demand responsive approach and will meet expressed needs for water supply and sanitation services by the beneficiary communities. It will provide resources and the support required to complement the efforts and contribution by the beneficiaries in providing these services for themselves. The project is therefore community based, adopts a demand responsive approach, and will respond to expressed needs by the beneficiary communities. The beneficiaries will participate fully in the implementation ofthe project, whose main components are: (i) Water Supply Development; (ii) Sanitation Support; (iii) Health Education and Support; (iv) Catcbment Protection; (v) Community Mobilisation & Training; (vi) Institutional Support. The duration of the project is five years with a total cost estimated at UA 13.99 million.
