Description

Description

The Kitwe Water Supply and Rehabilitation Phase I Project comprises execution of the essential rehabilitation works of the existing Kitwe City Council (KCC) water supply system including treatment plant, distribution centres, trunk mains, and part of the reticulation network. The proposed project will restore reliability to the water supply service in the City of Kitwe. Once implemented, the project will result in improved health of the beneficiaries through the reduction of water borne diseases including cholera which have been chronic in the area. Above all, the urban poor particularly those living in peri-urban areas stand to gain the most from the project. Some of these places do not have any organized water supply, and people are forced to seek poor and unreliable alternative sources. The project will provide these people, who are generally the last to receive water and forgo the same when systems fail, with a reliable supply of portable water.
