Zambia - Victoria Falls-Katima Mulilo 132 KV Interconnection Project

The proposed project is a priority project in the energy sector policy of the governments of Zambia and Namibia. It will essentially meet the forecast supply demand in Western Zambia and Katima Mulilo in Namibia. The project will also improve the technical network performance through increase in network reliability and stability and reduction of losses. It will enable (a) ZESCO to extend the national grid supply to the rural and peri-urban centres in Western Zambia; and (b) NamPower to make available relatively cheap and reliable electricity to the various socio-economic sectors at Caprivi region. The project involves the construction of approximately 190 km of single circuit 132 kV transmission network from Victoria Falls (southern Zambia) to Katima Mulilo (northern border town in Namibia). The Zambian portion of the line is approximately 185 km whilst the balance of 5 km is located in Namibia.
