Description | Zambia is pursuing an aggressive energy strategy to increase installed power capacity from around 3,500 MW to 10,000 MW by 2030 with a diversified energy mix including solar, wind, clean coal, and hydropower. The expansion supports the government's target to increase copper production to 3 mtpa by 2031. The plan includes solar and wind contributing 33% of capacity, clean coal providing baseload stability, and hydropower developments in northern regions. The government has streamlined regulatory processes and introduced incentives to attract investment, targeting approximately US$11.6 billion in investment by 2030. Transmission network expansion from 12,700 km to about 17,913 km by 2030 is also underway to support mining demand and regional energy trading. |
