The proposed lending operation is expected to enhance the role of the judiciary to support the economic developments for Zanzibar in line with the Zanzibar Vision 2050. Specifically, the proposed lending will support the construction or renovation of ‘smart’ courts in select locations with a potential focus on first-instance courts; the development and roll-out of critical modules of a judicial management information system (JMIS); staff training; designing, piloting and rolling out of the performance management systems; simplification of court processes and procedures; case and backlog clearance; strengthening the capacity of select stakeholders to enhance inter-institutional collaboration; building capacity for use of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms; and support the development of judicial gender justice strategy and action plan.
