Description | The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) is Europe's largest nuclear facility with six reactors capable of generating about 6,000 megawatts. It was seized by Russian forces in March 2022 during the war in Ukraine. The plant has suffered repeated blackouts due to destroyed power lines and is currently in cold shutdown with all reactors offline. Russia plans to reconnect the plant to its own energy grid and restart the reactors despite significant safety risks and operational challenges, including a shortage of qualified staff and cooling water supply issues. |
