Description
Description | The EU Trust Fund Bêkou is financed by the EU, four of its member states (Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands) and Switzerland and aims to support the government of the Central African Republic (CAR) in ending the political and military crisis and to improve the living conditions of the population. As part of a multi-sectoral approach, the fund invests in measures that contribute to the resumption of community functions and the supply of basic services and goods to the population. Particular attention is paid to the restoration of peaceful coexistence between the various ethnic and religious population groups, the living conditions of many people as a result of their flight, and the special situation and role of women in the crisis context. The German government is a founding investor in the fund, together with France, the Netherlands and the EU. The founding document (founding act) was signed by the German government (Federal Development Minister Gerd Müller) on July 15, 2014 in Florence. The German contribution (first to fourth payment) has so far amounted to EUR 35 million. The Bêkou Fund currently has committed contributions of EUR 290 million. The fund is managed by the EU Commission's Directorate-General for International Cooperation and Development (DEVCO). |
