Description
Description | Be transformed into the largest CCPP in Libya If you drive about 40 minutes the highway to Tunisia direction from Tripoli, the capital of Libya, you would see the site with full of pipelines and towering large stacks. This is the place where the Zawia Add-on CCPP(Combined Cycle Power Plant) built by Hyundai E&C in February 2009.Key electric power supply project of LibyaA CCPP is usually constructed for urgent electricity supply since its heat efficiency is 10% higher and construction period is shorter than those of the existing thermal power plant. In 2002, the General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) invited tenders for the Zawia Add-on CCPP construction project, expecting about 8% of annual power consumption increase until 2010. In the competition with leading construction companies, Hyundai E&C officially signed the USD 301 million contract in August 2003. In November 2004, Hyundai E&C recorded a total of USD 440 million in contract by receiving an additional order from the GECOL.Summarized the technical prowess and knowhow of Hyundai E&C The site was Hyundai E&C's first add-on construction by additionally installing three 150 MW steam turbine units and six waste heat recovery boiler (WHRB) units to the existing Zawia gas turbine power plant to transform it into 1400 MW CCPP. In the beginning stage, Hyundai E&C concentrated on all manpower and equipment in building STG where the CCPP’s key equipment to be installed including steam turbine. Hyundai E&C also thoroughly reviewed the design, transportation, and installation in advance to proceed the HRSG process without a hitch. By doing so, Hyundai E&C were able to meet the agreed deadline.Upon the completion, the entire power generation capacity of the Zawia Add-on CCPP increased to 1455MW, demonstrating the largest power generation capacity in the country, equivalent to the one third of the entire power generation of Libya.Raised the name of Hyundai E&C highBy highly evaluating the capacity Hyundai E&C shown during the entire project period, the GECOL requested the following construction contract by considering us as the first prospective contractor. As a result, Hyundai E&C was able to win the following contracts: Libya’s Tripoli West Steam Power Plant, Al Khalij Steam Power Plant, and Sarir Simple Cycle Power Plant. |
