Zero-emission bus transition & e-fuels hub development

The project involves two major strands of collaboration between Hitachi Ltd., Port of Tyne, and the North East Combined Authority (NECA):Zero-emission bus transition: Hitachi will support NECA’s ambition to convert the region’s entire local bus fleet to zero-emission vehicles within a decade. That includes deploying advanced charging and propulsion technology and using AI (e.g., their HMAX solutions) for digital monitoring of vehicles and infrastructure.“Smart Port” / clean e-fuels hub development: The Port of Tyne and Hitachi will assess and collaborate on the feasibility of establishing a dedicated on-site e-fuels production/use facility to decarbonise maritime transport, strengthen low-carbon logistics, foster digital transformation, clean-energy infrastructure, and skills development in the region.
