Description | The Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission has released the final Project Concept Report for its Zero Emission Passenger Rail and Trail project. The project proposes new passenger rail service and stations on about 22 miles of the Santa Cruz Branch Rail Line corridor, from Pajaro to near the Santa Cruz Wharf, with travel time of 40 to 55 minutes end to end. It also includes development of 12 miles of the Coastal Rail Trail segments and the Capitola Trestle reach. The project aims to connect to the California State Rail Network at Pajaro. The final report addresses some concerns and estimates capital costs and operating expenses, but funding details remain undetermined. The commission will vote on whether to move forward with the project in December 2025. |
