Description

The project involves the construction and operation of a multi-purpose terminal at the Zhapu Port, with capacity to receive ships up to 15,000 deadweight tons at an off-shore berth that can accommodate two vessels. The project envisages the construction of on offshore wharf with two berths, a 800-meter long approach bridge, a seawall of about 2,700 meters long, and other cargo handling equipment, storage yards and warehouses, six inland river berths, and supporting equipment and facilities. Annual throughput capacity is estimated at 225,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) for the container berth and 600,000 tons of general cargo. Total investment is estimated at US$ 61 million. In Dec. 1999, the IFC approved a US$ 14 million financing package for the project: US$ 6 million as direct loan, US$ 3 million as equity and US$ 5 million as quasi-equity. The project will be undertaken by CIG Zhapu International Terminal Two Co. Ltd., a joint-venture between the China Infrastructure Group, the IFC and the state-owned Jiaxing Zhapu Development Co. Ltd.
