Description

In January of 1998, Sino-French was awarded a 22-year concession contract to own, operate and manage the water supply in Zhongshan Municipality, Guangdong Province. The project included the take over two existing water plants with a capacity of 700,000 cubic meters per day and upgrade them to 1.3 million cubic meters per day. Zhongshan city had a population over 1.2 million. To implement the contract, Zhongshan Municipal Dafeng Water Supply Company Ltd. was created as the project company which was owned by Sino-French (66%) and the local state-owned Zhongshan Municipal Infrastructure Investment Company (33%). Sino-French, in turn, was a 50-50 joint venture between Suez water subsidiary Ondeo and New World Infrastructure of Hong Kong. Total investment was US$26.6 million.
