Description

Description

The project will create a fast, efficient and sustainable train route between Frankfurt and Mannheim. The project consists of two measures: the new line Frankfurt – Mannheim and the new line Wallauer Spange. Along with other projects the new line Frankfurt - Mannheim will close a German and European high-speed network gap. This new line will be double-tracked, electrified, and designed for a maximum speed of v = 300 km/h. The length of the line will be approx. 60 kilometres. After completion, the travel time for long-distance traffic between Frankfurt and Mannheim will be reduced from 38 minutes today to 29 minutes. Moreover, during the night, the line is reserved for freight trains. The line Frankfurt - Mannheim is located in the Rotterdam-Genoa freight corridor. This so-called traffic routing will relieve the existing lines of night-time freight traffic and thus the residents from night-time noise. Another measure of this project is the new line Wallauer Spange. The Wallauer Spange is an approximately four km long connecting curve between the existing Wiesbaden - Breckenheim line and the Cologne - Frankfurt high-speed line and will relieve the parallel line of local rail passenger traffic in favour of rail freight traffic in the European corridor Rotterdam – Genoa. Together with the line Frankfurt - Mannheim, the line Wallauer Spange represents an important building block in the draft for the Deutschland-Takt.
