Zimbabwe - Bulawayo water and sewerage services improvement project

The Bulawayo Water and Sewerage Services Improvement Project (BWSSIP), which was launched in October 2016, has the mandate of improving municipal water supply and sanitation services. Bulawayo is the second largest city in Zimbabwe. This City aims to reduce the city’s Non-Revenue Water (NRW), upgrade and rehabilitate the water distribution system, improve the sewer drainage capacity, rehabilitate waste water treatment facilities as well as strengthen community participation and buy-in. The proposed project’s emphasis is on rehabilitating and enhancing the water supply system, strengthening institutional capacity, enhancing service delivery efficiency and contributing to environmental improvement through rehabilitation of sanitation infrastructure. It is being implemented over a period of four years (2016 – 2019) and is expected to provide safe water and ensure safe disposal of sewerage, improve the efficiency of water and sanitation physical assets and enhance operations and financial efficiency of service delivery.
