Description | The project consists of the development, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of a 26.6MW solar PV power plant in Burkina Faso. The plant is located on a site of approximately 45 hectares in Zina village, Kona municipality, about 180km from the capital, Ouagadougou. The electricity generated will be sold to SONABEL, the state-owned power utility, under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement. The project will be connected to the national grid via a 7.8 kilometer transmission line. The project company - is Zina Solaire S.A., was 95.0% owned by Windiga Energy Inc. and 5.0% owned by the Government of Burkina Faso. After a several years of delay, Windiga's stake was acquired by AMEA Power in March 2021, at which point development resumed. The new ownership is AMEA Power with 90% and the Government of Burkina Faso with the remaining 10%. The total cost is approximately EUR44 million ($46.4 million). The project is financed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the IFC-Canada Climate Change Program and the Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund (EAIF), a member of the Private Infrastructure Development Group (PIDG).
