Description | The Zojila Tunnel is a 14.5-km long highway tunnel being constructed on the Srinagar-Leh National Highway using the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM). It aims to provide all-weather connectivity to Ladakh by reducing crossing time over the Zojila Pass from over three hours to just 15 minutes. The tunnel features lay-bys every 750 metres and three ventilation shafts. The project has faced challenges such as poor rock quality but is progressing towards a breakthrough milestone where excavation teams from opposite ends are expected to meet underground by 31 May 2026. |
