Description | The Zojila Tunnel is an ambitious infrastructure project under construction, set to become India's longest road tunnel and Asia's longest bi-directional tunnel. It is strategically located at an altitude of 11,578 feet in the challenging Himalayan terrain, providing over 30 kilometers of tunnel to connect Srinagar and Leh via Dras and Kargil. The tunnel is a crucial part of the Srinagar-Kargil-Leh National Highway and aims to enhance civilian and military mobility in the region. Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) is the single largest steel supplier to this project, having supplied over 31,000 tonnes of steel including TMT Re-bars, Structurals, and Plates. The project is expected to be completed by 2027. |
