Zojila Tunnel Project

The Zojila Tunnel is a strategically important 13.150-kilometre-long highway tunnel, Asia's longest at high altitude, providing all-weather connectivity between Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. It is a 7.57-metre-high, horseshoe-shaped, single-tube, two-lane tunnel passing under the Zojila Pass in the Himalayas. The project aims to eliminate seasonal isolation of Ladakh caused by winter closure of the Zojila Pass, ensuring uninterrupted movement of civilian and military personnel and facilitating movement of heavy military hardware. The tunnel incorporates advanced safety and snow protection features and is expected to reduce travel time between Srinagar and Leh by about three-and-a-half hours.
