2024-12 RFP Kitimat - Kitimaat Tsunami Study

The District of Kitimat ( the “ District ”) is seeking proposals from qualified and experienced consultants to conduct a Kitimat - Kitamaat Tsunami Model and Risk Assessment Project . The District , in partnership with Haisla Nation , has received a $ 300 , 000 grant from the Union of BC Municipalities ( UBCM ) for Category 1 Foundational Activities related to risk mapping , assessments , and planning , which forms the budget for this assignment . The study aims to develop a comprehensive tsunami inundation model and risk assessment for both communities and other significant coastal areas within the study boundaries . By modeling , mapping , and drawing upon community knowledge and Indigenous Knowledge , this project will provide the District of Kitimat and Haisla Nation a better understanding of their shared regional and local tsunami hazard and risk .
