Description | DESCRIPTION OF REQUIREMENT : WSDOT Headquarters is seeking bids for railroad materials having the following specifications : MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS : Hardwood Timbers Timber ties shall be No . 1 Grade or better and meet the requirements of AREMA 2023 Volume 1 Chapter 30 Part 3 , excluding Part 3 . 9 . Ties shall be graded by the standards set forth by the American Lumber Standards ( ALS ) and the West Coast Lumber Inspection Bureau ( WCLIB ). All ties shall be end plated . Timber ties shall be 7 - inch x 9 - inch with lengths as shown in the RFQ . The following woods can be used for crossties : 1 . Eastern Species : Oaks , Maples , Elms , Gums , Cypresses , Hickories , Birches , Cherries , Sassafras , Beeches , Sycamores , Walnuts , Locusts . Timber ties shall be pressure treated with Creosote - Type Preservatives in accordance with AREMA 2023 Chapter 30 Part 3 . 7 . 2 ; and by the empty cell process . Retention at a minimum shall be as follows : Hardwood ( not including Oak or Hickory ) 7 pcf . Oak , Hickory 7 pcf . or Refusal |
