A . The vendor shall be responsible for removing dead animals from public property in the Township , including animals located along roadways ( excluding deer ). B . The vendor shall be responsible for removing dead animals from private property , where such animals were not owned by the property owner and their presence poses a threat to the public health , safety of welfare . C . The vendor shall take animals into custody as requested by the Police Department including when the animal is already in the custody of the Police Department without delay . D . Owners of free roaming animals will be contacted before transporting them to the Atlantic County animal shelter . E . At the request of the Police Department , Vendor will investigate dog bites and impound animals under the NJ Vicious Dog Law N . J . S . A . 4 - 19 - 19 , 4 : 19 - 23 , 4 : 19 - 24 , 4 : 19 - 32 . The owner is responsible for removal and boarding costs . F . The Vendor shall hold any deceased cat ( s ) or dog ( s ) for a period of 8 hours . The contractor shall scan the animal for a microchip and post on social media if one is found ; this will allow the owner the opportunity to claim and retrieve their pet . The social media platform shall be but not limited to Facebook and Nextdoor . G . The contractor shall provide humane treatment to all animals in conformity with the rules and regulations established by the New Jersey Department of Health . H . The Vendor is not responsible to conduct regular patrols of the Township to apprehend stray and / or running at large animals and to detect possible violations of State and Local animal regulations ; however , the vendor may be called upon by the Township to assist with locating and apprehending an animal running at large .
