The purpose of residential services for individuals with SUD is to assist individuals in achieving the highest level of independent functioning of which they are capable , with movement toward independence and productivity in the community . Services are tailored to each client ’ s level of clinical severity and function and are designed to help clients achieve changes in their substance use behaviors . The services promote the exploration or application of recovery skills , relapse prevention , and emotional coping strategies . Additionally , the services promote personal responsibility and reintegration of the client into the network systems of work , education , and family life . The goal is for residents to improve their overall wellness and resiliency by promoting individuals to engage in personal responsibility and reintegration into the network of family , work , and community . The 24 - hour structure and support provide the residents an opportunity to develop and practice their interpersonal and group living skills , strengthen their recovery skills , and reintegrate into the community . The timeframe for individuals to reside in SUD Residential Treatment is flexible but expected length of stay is between seven days and 30 days , depending on individual stages of change , intensity , and amount of services needed and individuals ' responses to services . Individuals across the state will have easy access to long - term support resources , including comprehensive information , awareness , education , and guided assistance . The goal is to honor and support the desire of older adults and individuals with disabilities to remain independent , healthy , safe , and active in their home communities , and to assist individuals to live in the least restrictive environment , whenever possible .
