1 . Obtain materials from same source throughout each project . 2 . Abide by ADEM Requirements including all permits . 3 . Do not place asphalt when ambient air or base surface temperature is less than 40 degrees F , or surface is wet or frozen . 4 . Verification of existing conditions before starting work . 5 . Verify compacted subgrade subbase is dry and ready to support paving and imposed loads . 6 . Verify gradients and elevations of base are correct . 7 . Verify gutter drainage grilles and frames and manhole frames are installed in correct position and elevation . Raise to proper elevation if necessary . 8 . Apply tack coat in accordance with ALDOT Standard Specifications for Highway Construction . 9 . Apply tack coat to contact surfaces of curbs and gutters . 10 . Coat surfaces of catch basin frames with oil to prevent bond with asphalt pavement . Do not tack coats on these surfaces . 11 . Install work in accordance with ALDOT Standard Specifications for Highway Construction . 12 . Place asphalt within 24 hours of applying primer or tack coat . 13 . Place asphalt wearing course to thickness ( 1 ½ ” minimum ). 14 . Immediately after placement , protect pavement from mechanical injury until surface temperature is less than 140 degrees F . 15 . Immediately before placing asphalt materials , remove loose and deleterious material from substrate surfaces . Ensure that prepared subgrade is ready to receive paving . 16 . Spray , kill and remove all affected vegetation to ensure complete eradication per manufacturers specifications 7 - 10 days prior to paving . Use Garlon 3A or approved equal herbicide . Mix to the max ratio recommended by the manufacturer ( generally 1 % or greater ) and must use Garlon 3A or approved equal surfactant . Do not spray carelessly or in windy conditions . Must be sprayed when a 24hr window of clear dry weather is forecasted following treatment .
