The contractor shall furnish all labor , tools , and equipment necessary for the complete and satisfactory performance of the fertilization , irrigation , grass mowing and trimming of Amesbury ’ s three ( 3 ) little league baseball fields and one ( 1 ) softball field at Amesbury ’ s town park . Contractor shall mow all grass no shorter than 3 ” always avoid scalping and collecting clippings . Never cut more than 1 / 3 of the length of grass blades in a single cut . Must be cut a minimum of once per week . Collect drippings from the mowing operation . Trim along all fence lines on both sides . Standards - Mower blades must be sharp - Do not cut immediately after a rain event . - Mow in different directions each cut . Use vertical , horizontal , and two diagonals for variation . - Avoid quick turns with the mower . - Must remove all leaves , paper , and trash before mowing . The City will remove leaves and trash after use but there may be a few items to pick up . - Be sure all mowing personnel are familiar with the location of all irrigation heads and other features so they are not damaged . The City reserves the right to not have the contractor mow in the months of August and September due to lack of lawn growth . The work season begins April 24th and ends November 13th . The city will extend the season at their sole discretion in certain areas to assist with fall cleanup ( mulching leaves ). This work will be billed at the same price as work during the regular season . Lawn Maintenance - Total Lawn Maintenance Service : Provide full maintenance by skilled employees of landscape installer . The contractor is responsible for all mowing for the entire season . - The contractor shall maintain consistent height of grass throughout the little league and softball league seasons . - Maintain lawn by watering , fertilizing , weeding , mowing , trimming , replanting , and other operations . Roll , regrade , and replant bare or eroded areas and remulch to produce a uniformly smooth lawn . Provide materials and installation the same as those used in the original installation . - Mow lawn as soon as top growth is tall enough to cut ( 3 - 1 / 2 inches .) Repeat mowing to maintain specified height without cutting more than 1 / 3 of grass height . Remove no more than 1 / 3 of grass - leaf growth in initial or subsequent mowings . Inspection and Acceptance - When landscape work is completed , including maintenance , DPW will , upon request , make an inspection to determine acceptability . Fertilization - Utilize a reduced pesticide approach . The contractor will combine the use of high - quality slowrelease granular fertilizer with the selective use of pest controls . These controls shall be applied only when and where needed to protect against turf damage . As the condition and health of the lawn improves , the need for these materials should be further reduced . The Service Program The contractor will provide a program that consists of a minimum of six applications over the course of the season to gradually provide the proper nutrients and soil conditions needed for turf . The program shall also consist of a minimum of five landscape weed control treatments to the infield areas over the course of the growing season . General program schedule : - Early Summer Lawn - May / July – Balanced slow - released fertilizer with as needed broad leaf weed control and insect inspection / management . - Weed Control – July – Broad leaf weed control for infield area . - Summer Lawn – June / August - Balanced slow - released fertilizer with as needed broad leaf weed control and insect inspection / management . - Weed Control – August – Broad leaf weed control for infield area . - Late Summer Lawn – August / September - Balanced slow - released fertilizer with as needed broad leaf weed control and insect inspection / management . - Weed Control – September – Broad leaf weed control for infield area . - Fall and Lime Lawn – October / November – Winterizing fertilizer , food storage for winter survival and to promote root growth and early spring green up and a granular pelletized lime to condition soul and balance ph . - Grub Management – Should be included in the full application program . The contractor will inspect and treat as needed either preventatively or curatively based on pest levels , history , or weather conditions
