CHIP SEAL SPECIFICATIONS Chip Seal to be placed on a prepared surface . Contractor shall insure surface is properly prepared before Chip Seal application . The contractor will apply CRS - 2P Oil at the rate of 0 . 40 gallon per - square yard , and must meet the requirements shown in section 1032 of the NDOT Standard Specifications for Highway Construction ( Option A ) The Contractor will apply expanded shale chip seal aggregate at the rate of 9 to 12 lbs . per square yard . The Inspector may adjust these rates as a result of the test strip or field results . ( Option B ) The Contractor will apply limestone chip seal aggregate at the rate of 17 to 23 lbs . per square yard . The Inspector may adjust these rates as a result of the test strip or field results . The Contractor will use Nebraska Department of Transportation State approved procedures , equipment , and materials for this project . Paragraph 1 . of Subsection 515 . 02 of the Standard Specifications is void and superseded by the following : 1 . Armor Coat or Chip Seal emulsified asphaltic material shall be HFE - 150 from Section 1031 , or CRS - 2 , CRS - 2P , CRS - 2L , or CRS - 2VHL from Section 1032 .
