Description
Description | The University of Southern Mississippi ( USM ) is seeking bids from qualified manufacturers to supply and install a power generation unit that combines micro - wind turbines and photovoltaic cells to create electricity in a relatively small footprint . In particular , USM is looking for a treeshaped , electricity production system that is capable of producing 7 . 5 kW of electricity in ideal conditions . The system should have 24 micro - wind turbines ( 300 W per microturbine ), as well as 24 photovoltaic cells ( 36W per photovoltaic cell ). I . General Performance Specifications a . The clean hybrid energy generation system ( CHEGS ) shall consist of 24 microwind turbines , 16 of which have affixed photovoltaic units with a surface area of 29 . 5 cm2 b . Each micro - wind turbine and photovoltaic cell shall be rated to produce 300W and 36W of electricity c . The CHEGS unit should be able to generate 7 . 5 kW of electricity d . The CHEGS unit should resemble the shape of a tree that contains 4 metallic trunks / branches II . Requirements a . The following specifications are to ensure that the CHEGS will perform the tasks necessary to satisfy the project ’ s objectives . Any deviation from the following specifications must be explained and justified b . Bidder shall meet or exceed the following capabilities and design specifications : 3 . General Project Requirements I . Product Performance • Micro - Wind Turbine Double blade construction with a vertical axis and a synchronous microgenerator with permanent magnets Driven in rotation by the blade , without belts or gears Contains an electronic regulation card with integrated microprocessor for maximum efficiency Threshold windspeed for power generation is 2 . 5 m / s Maximum sustained windspeed 43 m / s Micro - generator is encapsulated to make it resistant to rain , sand , snow and pollution Individual micro - wind turbines shall not exceed 1 . 25 m in height Individual micro - wind turbines shall not weigh more than 20 kg Connection to an electrical cabinet • Photovoltaic Cell Affixed to bottom of micro - wind turbine at an angle of 5 ° to facilitate the flow of the rain from the surface of the photovoltaic cell Comprised of a semi - flexible crystalline photovoltaic film lying on aluminum to minimize the load and the efforts to be transmitted Each photovoltaic cell shall be able to generate 36 W Each photovoltaic cell shall have an area of 29 . 5 cm2 • Combination of Micro - Wind Turbine and Photovoltaic Cell Quiet operation 16 of the micro - wind turbines shall have a photovoltaic unit affixed to it • CHEGS Design The CHEGS shall generate a 7 . 5 kW of electricity in ideal conditions The CHEGS shall resemble the shape of a tree , with four trunks / branches in total The CHEGS shall be bird friendly The CHEGS shall have 24 micro - wind turbines , 16 of which will have a 29 . 5cm2 photovoltaic cell affixed to it The CHEGS shall not exceed 10 m in height The CHEGS shall not weigh more than 2000 kg The frame of the CHEGS shall be constructed of metal • Electrical Cabinet The system must be able to track electricity generated by the microwind turbines and photovoltaic cells individually ( i . e . separate the electricity generated by each source ). Contain a hybrid inverter / battery charger / transfer system that converts DC power into AC power while also managing battery charging and source transfer ( e . g . Xtender XTM 4000 - 48 ) Must contain a solar charge controller that uses maximum power point tracking ( MPPT ) technology Output voltage of solar and wind inverters of 230 V or 120 V |
